Excellent quality and stylish boot.

"Excellent quality and stylish boot. Love the leather laces which add a nice touch to the already classic boot."

The metal piece shown on

"The metal piece shown on the side of the image fell off during the second use. Called customer service and left a voicemail. No one called back and there is no one ever available whenever I call back."

Uncomfortable; sole noises; and broken laces

"TL;DR They are very uncomfortable, or just not true to Frye's own sizing. They make a hissing noise when walking. Leather laces broke. I bought these boots because they improved on three features compared with the Bowery Lace-Up, which I previously bought: (1) they don't have a zipper (the zipper on my Bowery Lace-Up broke, and I had to have it repaired); (2) they have a 100% rubber outsole (the Bowery Lace-Up had leather exposure at the toe-tip, which wore very quickly and I had to have them repaired twice); (3) I love the metal button on the flap on the side, since that part of the boot is also susceptible to wear. Because of these improvements, I was really excited to buy these and thought they would be my dream boots. Unfortunately several issues have come up that reduce my opinion of the boots. First, the leather laces broke the very first time that I put them on. Customer service was fantastic and generously replaced the laces. Second, the rubber outsole makes the sound of a soft gaseous release when I walk. Because of the design of the sole, there is space between the rubber outsole and the welt; the air in that space is forced outward when it is stepped on, creating a "pssh"-like noise. Third, and most importantly, they are terribly uncomfortable. The Barrett Lace-Up is the third pair of leather boots I've bought from Frye Company (all three are lace-ups of similar designs); the previous two pairs fit great, so I ordered the same size as the previous two. So either these boots run very small for Frye's own sizing, or they are true to size but are just inherently uncomfortable. Knowing that sometimes boots take time to break in and expand, and since they were the same size as my previous Frye boots, I was patient and wore them consistently despite the discomfort and even bruises that came with it. I can report that they are not breaking in or expanding. One more nit-picky detail (which does not really influence my overall rating): I would prefer that the layers on the heel were (from top to bottom) leather–rubber, instead of rubber–leather–rubber. The long rubber outsole that extends into the heel takes away slightly from the appearance. The Bowery Lace-Up had a better heel design in this regard."

Great looking boot

"Another great shoe from Frye. I have a little difficulty getting them on with my high instep, but I am sure as they break in they’ll get better. Otherwise, I love these shoes."
